Concerts at St. Mary's

St Mary’s Church has a magnificent acoustic for live music and we are delighted to welcome a range of musicians each year to perform before an appreciative audience. Our Saturday concerts, for which there is an admission charge, begin at 7.30 p.m. and refreshments are provided during the interval. Events on other days are usually free, of shorter duration and family-friendly. Please check below for further details.

September

 

Sunday 17th

6.30 p.m.

Choral Evensong led by St Mary’s Church Choir.

“Laudate nomen Domini” by Christopher Tye, “Summer Ended” by Charles Wood and a setting of the canticles by Herbert Thiman.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

October

           

Saturday 14th

7.45 p.m.

Bromley Symphony Players, directed by Bernard brook, present another concert of mainly baroque sting music, to include the Double Violin Concerto by J S Bach.

Admission is £8 on the door, with all proceeds going to The Alzheimer’s Society, and there are interval refreshments.

Sunday 15th

6.30 p.m.

St Mary’s Church Choir lead an evening service of celebration at the end of the Art Exhibition arranged by Bromley Art Society in the church. The music will include “The Heavens are Telling” by Haydn (from The Creation) with guest soloists, and a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Herbert Brewer in D.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

This service is followed by light refreshments.

November

 

Sunday 5th

3.00 p.m.

Richard Deacon (Trumpet) and Naomi Deacon (Flute) give a free family friendly recital with John Haydon (Piano). The short concert will be followed by tea and cakes. Admission is free, and families with children are welcome.

Sunday 12th

6.30 p.m.

Requiem by Gabriel Faure, performed by St Mary’s Festival Choir, directed by Beverley Howard, with Chris Moore (bass) and Anne Clements (Organ).

Free admission with a retiring collection for a local charity.

December

 

Saturday 2nd

7.30 p.m.

Bromley Youth Chamber Orchestra, with Bromley Young Musicians String Ensemble, present their Annual Christmas Concert in St Mary’s. Admission is £8 (£6) on the door, and there are interval refreshments.

Sunday 3rd

6.30 p.m.

Advent Service of Light, a dramatic evening beginning in darkness and slowly revealing light, as the birth of Jesus approaches, the church choir lead this service of words and music.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

Sunday 17th

6.30 p.m.

The traditional candle-lit service of Nine Lessons and Carols, led by St Mary’s Church Choir.
