Concerts at St. Mary's

St Mary’s Church has a magnificent acoustic for live music and we are delighted to welcome a range of musicians each year to perform before an appreciative audience. Our Saturday concerts, for which there is an admission charge, begin at 7.30 p.m. and refreshments are provided during the interval. Events on other days are usually free, of shorter duration and family-friendly. Please check below for further details.

April

 

 

Sunday 9th

6.30 p.m.

Passiontide Meditation, a sequence of words and music, led by St Mary’s Church Choir, appropriate for the beginning of Holy Week.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

Good Friday 14th

7.30 p.m.

Stainer’s “The Crucifixion” performed by St Mary’s Festival Choir, directed by Beverley Howard, with Ben James (Tenor) and Chris Moore (Bass). Anne Clements plays the organ. This moving and well-loved Passion cantata lasts about an hour contains hymns for the audience which comment on the action.

Admission is free and a retiring collection will be for St Christopher’s Hospice.

Sunday 23rd

6.30 p.m.

Choral Evensong led by St Mary’s Church Choir.

“If ye love me” by Tallis, “Most Glorious Lord of Life” by Harris and a setting of the canticles by Herbert Sumsion in G.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

Saturday 6th

7.30 p.m.

Members of the Hammig String Quartet play String Trios, including the Terzetto by Dvorak, and are joined by Claire Wibberley for the Mozart Piano Quartet in G Minor K478.

Admission is £8 (£6) on the door, and there are interval refreshments.

Sunday 21st

6.30 p.m.

The London Gallery Quire lead an Evensong service with a big difference! Come and experience church as it was 200 years ago, when members of the local community provided rumbustious and enthusiastic music.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.

“O Holy Spirit Lord of Grace” by Tye, “I will sing with the Spirit” by Rutter, and a setting of the canticles by Herbert Brewer in D.

Saturday 15th

7.30 p.m.

Bromley Boy Singers, directed by Travis Baker, present an end of term concert before their tour to Paris, to include favourite items.

Admission is £8 (£6) on the door, and there are interval refreshments.

Sunday 16th

6.30 p.m.

Choral Evensong led by St Mary’s Church Choir.

“Above all praise and all majesty” by Mendelssohn, “Ye choirs of new Jerusalem” by Stanford, and a setting of the canticles by Thomas Attwood Walmisley in D minor.

Free admission with a collection for church funds.
