Advent at St Mary’s Bromley

for Children and Young People and their Families

29th November 1st Sunday in Advent

If you saw St Mary’s live streamed service today you might have noticed that the colour on the altar was purple. Did you see the colour purple anywhere else?

Were you able to find out why last Sunday is often called Stir Up Sunday?

It started back in Victorian times when families traditionally came together to make their Christmas puddings and all members would take a turn to give the mixture a good stir. It is thought that the name comes from the opening line of a prayer that was read in church on the Sunday before Advent which started “Stir up we beseech thee, O Lord”.

Did anyone hear it last Sunday?

Today the first candle was lit on the Advent ring. Have you made yours? If so, you may like to write on your first candle the word HOPE because the first Sunday in Advent is all about hope. Maybe you can write or colour in the letters in purple.

The next craft item for you to make in preparation for our Zoom Nativity is a star or lots of stars.

You can find out how to make them by following the links below.
