Forgiveness & the will to change

Forgive Us
Let us join together asking God to forgive our personal sins and the shared sins of the nations of which we are part…..
Forgive us the greed for cheap energy and food which has led us to wreck the economies and lives of many people
Forgive us
Forgive us our indifference to the plight of the poor, allowing us to give more to the rich, the armament makers, & the elite
Forgive us
Forgive us the pride which allows us to assume superiority over others, to their detriment; the pride which leads to nationalism & excludes others
Forgive us
Forgive us the laziness which leads us to leave to others the work of countering environmental damage
Forgive us
Forgive us the sins we hide from ourselves & free us to serve you
Forgive us
Listen to the prayers of those who call upon you, forgive our sins of commission and omission and give us the wisdom and will to make the changes needed.
Amen

Loving God, strengthen our resolve to do what is right, to stand up for the marginalised, to safeguard creation and protect life, even when we feel small and ineffective. Give us the confidence to share our concerns and our hopes for the planet, so that we can encourage & welcome others to follow the path of righteousness and justice. Amen

Courage to care

Loving God, you fill all things with a fullness and hope that we can never comprehend. Thank you for leading us into a time where more of reality is being unveiled for us all to see. We pray that you will take away our natural temptation for cynicism, denial, fear and despair. Help us have the courage to awaken to greater truth, greater humility, and greater care for one another. May we place our hope in what matters and what lasts, trusting in your eternal presence and love. Listen to our hearts’ longings for the healing of our suffering world. Knowing, good God, you are hearing us better than we are speaking, we offer these prayers in all the holy names of God. Amen.

Your will in your creation

Ecological Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven ... and also, at home in all Creation, the air, the forests and the oceans; hallowed be your name ... by the care we take of your creation. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven ... Your will to till the land, to restore it and care for it. Give us this day our daily bread ... that all may have sufficient to live life in fullness. Forgive us our trespasses ... our greed, our lack of concern for all species and future generations. As we forgive those that trespass against us …. Without blame or condemnation but with invitation into new life Lead us not into temptations ... that equate dominion with exploitation, and deliver us from the evil ... of destroying your gifts of creation. For yours is the kingdom; Yours not ours, The power and the glory ... in the cross and resurrection. For ever and ever Amen

Turn away from cynicism to life

We stand at a tipping point, O God, teetering between life and death: Shall we fall or rise?
“Choose life!”1
Shall we retreat into our shells, bury our heads in the sand: Or shall we step forth into a new age of sustainability?
”Choose life!"
Shall we ignore the science, hide ourselves in the trappings of consumerism: Or shall we openly embrace renewable lifestyles?
“Choose life!”
Shall we pointlessly mourn the loss of polar bears and elephants, bees and butterflies: Or shall we live our lives so that all may live?
“Choose life!”
Shall we fly to the ends of the earth while ice sheets melt: Or value the future by enjoying what is local? “Choose life!” Shall we disregard floods and droughts, storms and heat waves, as seasonal blips: Or acknowledge them as already-present signs of climate change?
“Choose life!”
Shall we close our ears to cries of help from farmers and islanders as their lands disappear: Or shall we join voices in calling for justice?
“Choose life!”
Holy God, Prompt us and urge us, encourage and propel us, to now change our lifestyles so that all may have life and live!
Amen

Refreshment, healing & new life

Come .... Come Jesus the Christ, Wanderer of the Earth, lead us as we walk today with you that we and the earth may be healed. Come Spirit holy, eternally hovering over the waters of chaos, guide us as we cling to your coat-tails, that we and you may bring peace in the chaos. Come Angels of light and fire, flickering and warming lead us in the dance that within the light we and you may sing Creation’s love song. Come very Breath of Life, breathe new life into us, that the air that surrounds us rings with your Word. Come Mary and Mary and the many unnamed Marys, teach us to say ‘Yes’ that we may follow where Jesus leads … ….. and never count the cost.
